Why do we celebrate Martin Luther King Day?

People always celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 19 taking a day off of work or school but do people really know why they take the day off? Not just because he had a dream speech there more towards it.

The “Day on, Not a Day off” is about how Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy of justice, it was designated by Congress in 1994. Americans volunteer and serve their communities to honor Martin Luther King Jr. On January 19.

Martin Luther King Jr. is famous for his “ I Have A Dream” speech. King was also celebrated for his leadership in the Civil Rights because he was against the racial injustice for the Black Americans.

King’s message was to show all the people that it was about peace, love, and the equality that will pass on during this time or more in the future.

Martin Luther King Jr. fought for ensuring equal rights, and also building a beloved community with the Black Americans. He had a vision for equality and justice that went beyond to create an inclusive social and racial justice in labor rights for the Black Americans.

Martin Luther King Jr. showed the struggles and the battles that the Black Americans had to go through in the 1960s and how the world needed to change to have equal rights.


Martin Luther King Jr. Day is not just about his message, it’s to be against the racial injustice for the Black Americans showing his leadership on why and how he changed the American Civil Rights.

However, Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of legacy of the Civil Rights to be a leader to the fight for justice and equal rights for every color.
