Brewer High School’s boys’ soccer team is starting the season with new leadership and high hopes under their new coach, Benjamin Buentello.

After 14 years of coaching, Coach Buentello joined Brewer High School to be closer to his home after he and his wife welcomed a new baby this summer.

“What drew me to Brewer was that it’s a one high school district with an established, successful boys’ soccer program,” Coach Buentello said. “I hope to build on that and create a pipeline of players starting in seventh grade.”

For him, coaching is about more than just winning games.

“Playing is temporary,” Coach Buentello said. “I want my players to learn life lessons- showing up on time, working hard and overcoming adversity.”

“Very few have a love for the ball itself,” Coach Buentello said. “The best players are obsessed with their development.”

As the season begins, the coach feels confident about his team’s potential. “We’re learning from each other every day,” Coach Buentello said. “Everyone is competitive, and competition brings out the best in teams.

With that mindset, Brewer’s boys’ soccer team is ready to compete and make this season one to remember.
