For the first time ever the Lady Bears won a playoff game. This game was won after clinching their spot in the playoffs for the first time in 18-years. The girls beat the Richland Royals for the Bi-District Championship which was also their first round, with a score of 67-44. The Lady Bears are currently at a 23-12 overall record and are second in district with a 8-3 record after beating Granbury, Wichita Falls, Aledo, Azle, Ennis and Richmond.

“We are making history as we speak.” Senior power forward Tori Colman said. “We are grinding and proving people wrong every day.”

The Lady Bears had a rough 2021 season, having a 2-8 district record. They had to battle not only against their competitors but also the uncertainty of covid-19. This included the cancellation of games and tournaments, limited fan seating and the isolation of players.

“This year, we were really able to build as a team without any limitations.” Sophomore shooting guard Eryn McKinzie said.

A new addition to the team this season is new Head Coach Teraine Lewis, also known as ‘Coach T.’ Lewis has been coaching at Brewer for three years. Her first year she was the freshman coach and for her second she was the JV coach.

“This season has been a work in progress.” Lewis said. “This program is accomplishing so much and it hasn't even reached its greatest potential!”

Lewis always pushes the girls to their limits. She knows what they are capable of so she does not let them perform any less than that. Lewis has been learning this new team and is helping them adjust to her coaching.

“I know this is weird but her yelling at us helps.” Colman said. “She knows what we are capable of and we [the players] know it too. Sometimes we are just a little hard headed.”

The Lady Bears played the Azle Hornets for their ninth district game on Feb.7 and came out victorious against the Hornets. The girls won by 23 points, resulting in the final score being 63-37.

On Feb.9, the Lady Bears suffered a devastating loss to Wichita Fall Rider with a score of 41-47.
