Yes, this isn’t a drill. After five years of hype, ever since the announcement of the SilkSong on February 24, 2019. Team Cherry dropped after 7 years since the base game Hollow Knight:SilkSong. The fans were waiting years for SilkSong, and on September 4th, 2025, SilkSong was dropped.
First things first, the gameplay. In HollowKnight: SilkSong, Hornet, your main protagonist, is a lot more agile and acrobatic. Hornet is faster, jumps higher, attacks faster and can vault over platforms, so the map is a lot bigger to accommodate this. The trade-off, however, is that Hornet takes more damage, with Hornet taking 2 hp (For anyone living under a rock, it means health or hit points, which is how many hits you can take before dying in-game) each attack from most bosses and bigger enemies. For context, the final boss of Hollow Knight, The Radiance, does 2 hp. This means Hornet is less durable than The Knight from the last game. This means you will be playing as a fast yet brittle character. You now have access to tools and items that can be bought, crafted, or found. These items can be used in a fight to use as a weapon, for healing or for any other use. It's Hollow Knight, what do you expect? This raises another question: What is the story?

The story takes place after the first game (I believe after the void ending in the god seeker DLC (Downloadable content) after you touch the flower. Hornet is captured by Other insects, a part of the Citadel, a religious institution, and a part of the new kingdom of the game called Pharloom. In Act One, your goal is to get to the Citadel. That’s all I know about the story, since in the game, I just made it into ShellWood.
For me, SilkSong feels better to play. When I played Hollow Knight, I felt like I had a lack of direction (I could be just stupid when I first played). I did hear some people say it’s harder than Hollow Knight, which to me is a lie. I find SilksSong a lot easier to hornet, being faster and being able to heal in the air instead of having to be on the ground. In Silk Song, there are crests that change the way you attack and fight in the game, which helps you fit your playstyle. While in Hollow Knight, you are stuck with one way to attack. Overall, I think Hollow Knight was a lot harder than SilkSong.
