On Nov. 5, in the last district game of the season against Arlington Heights, the Bears were proven victorious over the Yellow Jackets with a score of 36-12.
This game resulted in the Bears being tied for first in district alongside Azle and Northwest, making the schools 3-5A Tri-District Champions.
“I feel like we entered the game with the wrong attitude.” Senior defensive nose guard Camron Hutcherson said. “Heights hit us hard in the first half, so we had to bounce back in the second half.”
The team had a solid 5-0 district streak, this includes the heavily anticipated win against rival school Azle, whom the Bears had not beaten in three years. The Bears won with a score of 42-27. But this ended when playing the Northwest Texans for the District Championship on the Bear’s Senior night.
The Bears suffered a devastating loss to the Texans, 42-17.
“I would say that the team made a lot of mistakes during that game, including myself.” Senior defensive end Courtney Pruitt said. “Northwest took advantage of those mistakes and won that game, but I believe that if we played again the outcome would be different.”
The team played the Midlothian Panthers for the Bi-District Championship and our first round of playoffs on Nov.12 at the Bear Stadium.
The Bears played the Panthers in a non-district game at the beginning of the season. This was the closest game for the Bears so far with the score being 23-20.
“At the beginning of the game we started off really rocky.” Junior left tackle Rayvon “RJ” Weathered said. “They were a great team to compete against for our first game of the season.”
The Bears unfortunately suffered a devastating loss to the Panthers with the score of 21-17, ending their playoff run.
There has been displayed anger amongst the fans about the play calling from the coaches this season but the players think otherwise.
“I do not think that the coaches need to improve anything.” Pruitt said. “It is up to us as the players to execute the plays the coaches give us.”
The team has had a great run, ending the season with a record of 8-3 overall and 6-1 in district.
