The boy's basketball team played against the Grapevine Mustangs at Keller High School for their first round of playoffs on Feb. 22. It was a close game against the Mustangs with the Bears being up in the first half 28-19, but in the third quarter the game got extremely close with the Bears up by one point making the score 38-37. The Bears suffered a heartbreaking defeat against the Mustangs with a score of 50-55.

The boys have had many great accomplishments this season. On Feb. 9 the Bears played Wichita Falls Rider and won 67-42, which clinched them their playoff spot. This win also made it the 10th consecutive year that the team has made it to the playoffs, but they also had another great accomplishment this season.

“Being back-to-back district champs is an amazing feeling.” Senior point guard Caleb Lelek said. “We have put in countless hours of work perfecting our craft both individually and as a team, so having all that hard work pay off feels great.”

On Feb.11, the Bears beat the Aledo Bearcats 44-40 for the District Championship. This was the second consecutive year that the boys won the District Championship.

“I will look back in a couple of years and be proud of that moment.” Senior center Tauseef Minahs said. “It was an amazing honor and I had fun doing it.”

A great contributor to the team’s success has to be Head Basketball Coach Jason Porostovsky, also known as ‘Coach P’.

“His [Coach P] coaching hardly changes which makes him such a good coach.” Lelek said.

Coach P has been coaching at Brewer for 14-years and, as previously mentioned, his consistency and coaching style has been one of the key factors to the team's success over the years. He holds the players accountable and tells them the truth so that they continue to improve their game, academics and mental. He has also been described as energetic, intense and competitive.

“I would say our biggest struggle this year was not being mentally tough when we needed to be.” Senior center Tauseef Minahs said.

The boys ended the season with a 21-12 overall record and a 9-1 district record.

Players include: Sr. Caleb Lelek, Sr. Tauseef Minhas, Sr. Drequan Conley, So. Warren King, Jr. Anthony Landrum, Jr. Carron Gibson, Sr. Jayden Young, Sr. Anakin Daigle, Sr. Hayden Nitschke, Sr. BJ Williams, So. Julian Perez, So. JP Simpkins and Sr. Luke Mitter.
