In late 2021, STUCO put together a member only group meant to be a “hype team” during sports games. This year, they opened it up to the entire student body.
“The hype team should belong to all of BHS and not just one organization,” STUCO advisor Brianna Hudson said. “It gives the students a chance to take ownership of their school pride,”
Junior Zion Curb, co-captain of Blue Crew and Vice President of STUCO, has been involved in the group since it was first created. She has had many fun experiences and memories with the tight-knit community.
“Before Blue Crew, I was really shy, but now with Blue Crew, I am not afraid to embarrass myself,” Curb said. “I actually embrace it. I am loud and proud!”
Students that were not or are not in STUCO have wanted to be in Blue Crew since they first showed up at football games, but haven’t had the chance until recently. The student body has been anxiously waiting to show off their GRIT.
“What made me want to join Blue Crew was wanting to display more school spirit during my senior year,” STUCO member Frida Alvarado said. “The kids in it truly all have school spirit and are committed to making other students spirited as well,”
There are about 60 members in Blue Crew at the moment, but since there is not enough space for everyone on the track at a time, they rotate between 10 people at a time while the rest of the members stay in the stands to give the student section more opportunities to learn the chants.
“Our goal this year is to have an all-year hype team,” Hudson said. “It shouldn’t just be about football. We want to show support for all our teams and organizations.”
